Where is the difference between a thermo-weld fastener and a friction welded joint?
To realise a thermo-weld fastener the strap´s surface is melted by a heating element. Using the friction welding method the strap is heated up purely mechanically by friction.
The thermo-weld fastener has a low number of components and very quick approach. The heating element is placed on top and below at the overlapping tape ends. By the heat the plastic becomes soft. When it is sticky enough, the heating element is removed and high pressure is forced on the strap´s ends The result is a very high and steady locking firmness.
Advantages: Strapping by thermo-weld fasteners is noiseless and generates a steady and quick melting of the strap. The welding temperature can be chosen and is supervisable. Steady and high locking values are achievable thereby. The construction unit is especially robust and low-wear.
Friction welding is a mechanical method where the strap is melted only by friction.. A swinging arm with high frequency goes on the upper tape back and forth. Both locking surfaces thereby move mutually, generate the necessary frictional heat and weld together by the prevailing contact pressure.
Advantages: Friction welding originates no unpleasant odour. Because there is no heating-up period, the device is ready to work immediately and can be pursued energy-efficient in the stand-by mode.
